Himeji-jo 姫路城
Inscribed 1993CulturalHyogo
Himeji Castle is the finest surviving example of early 17th-century Japanese castle architecture: a white-plastered main keep with layered roofs, linked towers, walls and gates that remain remarkably intact. Unlike most Japanese castles, it has never been destroyed by war, fire or earthquake.
