Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu 琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群

Inscribed 2000CulturalOkinawa

Nine sites from the Ryukyu Kingdom (12th–17th centuries): five gusuku castle ruins, sacred groves and a royal mausoleum. The Ryukyus traded with Japan, China, Korea and Southeast Asia, and their curved stone castle walls and sacred places reflect that independent island culture.
